Add to basketSigned on the dedication page with a very special, unique inscription by Van Dyke. Specifically, under the original dedication to his young daughter from the first edition of the book (1895), Van Dyke wrote a new, updated version of the dedication for his daughter, who was 36 years older at the time the book was inscribed (dated Nov. 23rd, 1931). The new dedication is written beautifully in pen and is a very sweet ode to his adult daughter. The dedication appears to be unique - I couldn't find any record of what he wrote in the book anywhere else online. The book itself is a later edition/printing from 1901 by Scribner's, with 3 previous editions and various other printings noted on the publication page. The book is hardcover without a dust jacket. The book condition is G. The text and photo plates and bright, clean and clear of writing, markings and highlighting. Throughout the text, some pages have very small, sparse glittery speckles along edges - this is very minor, but visible when looking closely and moving under light. Fore edge and bottom edge of text roughly trimmed, with small bits fraying in some spots. A few pages have very minor blemishes (e.g., small smudge spot). Binding overall sound, but some widening in the gutters in spots, with mesh a bit visible in one spot (but no cracking or splitting and feels tight). Pages toned around edges. Hinges have a tiny bit of give when pressure is applied, but overall very robust and firm. Front hinge gutter endpaper ripped ~3 inches in the middle of gutter, with mesh visible. Corners of text block bumped in spots. Hardcover board corners bumped and rubbed, curling inwards; light-moderate bumping along fore edges of hardcover boards.

Orders ship within 2 business days of payment - typically next day. Orders are shipped via USPS media mail at a flat rate of $6 and $2 for each additional item. Orders can also be shipped via USPS priority mail for $15 for the first book. For both services, customers will be contacted if heavy/oversized books require additional shipping costs, or if the shipping destination requires additional shipping costs.
Important note for non-US buyers: International orders are billed at cost, and this cost varies greatly with the weight and size of the order. If you are ordering oversized volumes or multiple books, expect notably higher shipping costs. When you place your order, I will estimate the shipping options and costs with PirateShip and email you about these options. When we agree on a shipping method, I will send an invoice for the additional shipping costs through Abebooks, and will pack and ship the order once this is paid. If it turns out that your order costs less to ship than the default international shipping cost that I use for my books, I will reiumburse you for the difference.
