Living with a Learning Disability

Barbara Cordoni addresses, for the first time in book form, the implications of the learning disabilities on a person’s life beyond school.

L.D. people are often limited in their ability to acquire those behavioral and verbal skills that all must learn but are rarely consciously taught. Body language, facial expression, and social gestures must be understood for individuals to find their place in the social world.

Drawing on decades of research, teaching, and the parenting of her L.D. son and daughter, Dr. Cordoni offers techniques, counsel, and case studies that address those problems. Writing with clarity, humor, and compassion, she understands that individuals with learning disabilities can grow only if they have tough love from their parents.

Barbara Cordoni is Professor, Department of Special Education, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and is a member of the International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities.
