The story appeared in Constable's New Crimes 2: New Series, edited by Maxim Jakubowski and published in 1993 but adapted as a Sister Fidelma story. A4. pp. 33., recto only. Word count: 7,200. Typed signed letter from Peter Berresford Ellis to Peter Haining, Peynton [sic] House Boxford near Colchester Suffolk CO6 5DZ loosely inserted written on headed notepaper from 30 Gresley Road London N19 3JZ dated November 17, 1992 and consisting of about 166 words in which he encloses the better of the two short Inspector Lehane tales. He also provides some background information stating that Inspector Lehane of the Dublin Metropolitan South Division, first appeared in his novel 'Angelus' first published by Panther Books in 1985. In 'Murder by Mystery' Lehane, the city detective is on holiday in Kerry when he gets called to investigate the death of a young journalist on a remote island. Peter Berresford Ellis aka Peter Tremayne and Peter MacAlan (born 1943) is a historian, literary biographer and novelist. A prolific writer and a leading authority on the Celts, his Sister Fidelma historical mystery series have proved hugely popular. Peter Haining (1940–2007) was a prolific writer and editor on subjects ranging from crime and horror to witchcraft and fantasy.
