EDWIN MARKHAM (1852-1940). Markham, is best known for his poem The Man with the Hoe. His other work includes Lincoln and Other Poems. He was chosen to read the poem Lincoln, the Man of the People at the 1922 dedication of the Lincoln Memorial.ALS. 1pg. November 10, 1930. West New Brighton, New York. An autograph letter signed Edwin Markham at the bottom of a letter by Edwin Osgood Grover who wrote The Animal Lovers Knapsack. Markham replied with Dear Mr. Edwin Osgood Grover, I read your volume (I unpacked your knapsack) and found joy I the adventure. It is a book for the traveler, for the student, for the home-lover, for the humanitarian. I hope that you will sell a million copies. It carried information, it carried blessing, it carries beauty. Edwin Markham. The letter has folds and is in fine condition.
