Add to basketHardcover with DJ. Bound in maroon cloth with gold lettering on the spine. Binding good and tight with some dustiness to the foreedges but little else to distract. White DJ is faded towards tan, with some parts further along than others, but complete and unoffensive. Title page dated 1939. Copyright page dated 1938 and 1939. This is the 1939 reprint (2nd printing). 382 pages. This copy has inscription on the front endpaper 'With good wishes of the author + publisher, Harold Macmillan.' Original ownership name of J.C. Harsch written in red above (and separated from) the Macmillan inscription. Joseph Harsh was a journalist and war correspondent for CBS and the Christian Science Monitor from the Great Depression until his death in the 1990s. Macmillan would serve as Prime Minister in the 1950s, but at the time this book was published, he was publisher and member of Parliament. This important work argues for a centrist approach (the front cover shows images of both hammer and sickle and fascist bundle), which was still considered feasible in the late 1930s. A nice association copy of a scarce and influential book. Please email with questions or to request photos. If you see a photo beside this listing, please be aware that it s an ABE Stock Photo (whatever that is) and not a photo of this book (although they sometimes get right).

Regular shipping by USPS Media Mail is $4. MEDIA MAIL SHIPPING DOES NOT INCLUDE TRACKING.
If you'd like tracking, please let us know before you place the order - We're happy to do it but it costs $1 extra because it means we have to print a shipping label for it individually, slowing down the shipping process considerably -- and we want to be able to keep basic shipping costs as low as we can.
We ship orders valued at more than $50 in a box, at no additional charge.
