Large quarto (11 1/4 x 9 1/8 inches; 286 x 230 mm.). xi, [1, blank], 159, [1] pp. Thirteen color plates mounted on brown paper, with descriptive tissue guards, and eighty-five drawings in black and white (one mounted on brown paper, with descriptive tissue guard). Original white buckram pictorially stamped and lettered in gilt on front cover and spine. Printer's device stamped in blind on back cover. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Gilt is bright. Some smudging to cloth. Spine a bit sunned. Previous owner's small bookplate on front pastedown. A bit of foxing and toning, but mostly just to the endpapers and few leaves at the beginning and end. Otherwise internally very clean. A very good copy. "I think most of the best known are here. I have chosen those I knew and liked best in my own nursery days" (Rackham).
