Add to basketUmberto Eco (2001) The Name of the Rose , UK illustrated edition, published by the Folio Society. Signed by the author on the title page. This is the first Folio Society print. Illustrated by Neil Packer. Provenance: from the library of John Philburn with his small and tasteful book ownership sticker on the ffep. The book was signed by Eco at a promotional event at Hatchards in London. Condition: in fine condition and hard looked at. Complete with the slipcase. The Name of the Rose is Umberto Eco s debut and most loved novel. Originally published in Italian in 1980, the intelligent murder mystery set in a monastery in medieval Italy gained instant recognition and sold over 50 million copies worldwide to date. It was adapted into an international film starring the great Sean Connery in 1986 who played William of Baskerville. Eco received so many letters from his readers that a Postscript (1983 in Italian, 1984 in English) was published to explain some of the hidden meanings in the novel. This is a beautiful edition with high quality paper used, bound in buckram, and enigmatic and tasteful illustrations by Neil Packer. A Folio printing typicaly consists of about 2,500 copies. Very few of them would have been signed by Umberto Eco who died in 2016. First and Fine.
