Inscribed along the topedge of the first page: "For John Christopher, humbly, my third scholion, greetyng [sic] the light with wounded nerves. Guy." The offprint of an essay about Wallace Stevens annotated by Davenport on the first page, in which he explains the epilogue, comments on a book referenced in the opening paragraph, and provides a note about the printer.
