Frank Ladd, once a famous lawman, is now, in 1915, a has-beena showpiece in a Staffold, Arizona saloon. Ike Tolbert, the criminal whose capture had made Ladd famous, has been freed after 20 years in prison, brooding on revenge. He murders the judge who sentenced him and is again on the run from the law. Ladd, his wife, Lola, and Drew Hardin, a drifter, set out to track him down in order to restore Ladd's image and to win the $5000 reward. Lola, once known as "Little Sure Shot," plays an important part in attaining both goals. There is plenty of action and suspense in the tough, terse style characteristic of Cummings.
