Vol 2 collation [22] 226 [4] 3-134 [2] 157-184pp + 43 copper plates (numbered plates I-XIX, tab 1-3, tab I - VIII, tab 1-5, tab 1-4, tab 1-4), plate xiv in facsimile. Seperate title page for Opuscula Posthuma, after main title and for part volume 2 part 2. With 57 of 58 folding engraved plates. Lacking plate XIV in volume II; a well done facsimile is bound in. Bound into contemporary calf backed boards. Professionally rebacked, preserving original spine. Introduction by G. J. Gravesande and edited by Burchardus de Volder and Bernardus Fullenius. Second edition with volume 2 previously published in 1703 as Posthuma Opuscula. Latin language text. Titles printed in red and black. Large paper copy, with pages uncut. Scattered damp staining and at the outside of a few of the plates, outside the illustration. General light toning and foxing. This work explores the depths and range of Huygen's knowledge in optics and physics. He discovered Saturn's moon Titan and its rings, invented the pendulum clock, studied centrifugal force and was a key figure in the scientific revolution.
