TITLE CONTINUED: Containing, instructions for the exercising the pike and musket in all their postures, with the signs of the drum, by its beating the several points of war; the exercise of granadiers, horse, and dragoons: the explanation of the words of command, and how to be put in practice: the manner of drawing up in several forms of battel: the various fireings and advantages to be gained thereby: the several doublings, wheelings, and drawing up of battalions, squadrons of horse, &c. with the conduct of armies in open, or enclosed countries, or upon any occasion or emergency, how the detached Party and Officers ought to carry themselves. Several ways of Encampment; opening difficult Passes, taking Castles, passing Bridges, opposing Towns or Fortresses. The method to be observed in garrisons, and the manner of Fortification, with that of besieging strong holds.To which is added, as a second part, The ART OF GUNNERY; or, The complete Engineer, shewing the practice of the ordnance, mortars, with the manner of making and using fire-works for war, at sea and land, and many other things. SECOND EDITION CORRECTED 1691, with large additions in both parts. Small 8vo, approximately 150 x 90 mm, 6 x 3½ inches. 2 folding engraved plates signed P(eter) P(aul) Bouche, pages: [4], 1-156, bound in contemporary sheep, paper title to spine with ink lettering. The Art of Gunnery has a caption title on page 140; register and pagination are continuous. Binding slightly rubbed and neatly repaired to bottom of spine, date scratched to upper cover, lacks first free endpaper, neat repair to bottom corner of last endpaper which has old ink scribble, 7 leaves have small old worm hole, slightly affecting the odd letter, all text easily understood, small hole affecting 1 corner neatly repaired, 6 pages slightly trimmed at bottom margin, affecting catchwords, all easily understood, occasional small fox spot otherwise a very good copy.
