First published in 1903 the copy offered is of the 2nd Edition 1937 which was published by the authors son R V Bavington Jones and is inscribed and signed by him in ink to the free front end paper to a former Registrar of the Cinque Ports and the recipient has in turn inscribed it to another such. The Office latterly by tradition is held by a Town Official of a Member Town.It is not commonly known that for many years the Cinque Ports also had control of the herring fishery at the mouth of the Yare, in Norfolk and there is a 6 page chapter on this.
