Edition limited to 10 [Volume I] and 15 numbered copies, these being number 4 [of 8 thus bound] and number 10 [of 12 thus bound] respectively, both signed by the publishers Mike Hudson and Jadwiga Jarvis. *First published as two separate series of four monographs (plus Introduction), issued in paper wrappers at three-monthly intervals in 1995-1996 and 2000-2001. Monograph No. 1, A Pressing Argument, examines technical and philosophical differences between traditional letterpress printing and the various modern methods of text reproduction. No. 2, It Goes Against the Graini0fs24 . . . fs20 clarifies 'the confusion of terminology between woodcut and wood engraving'. No. 3, Broadly Speaking, is an overview of the history of broadside printing. No. 4, Printers and Politics, is 'a commentary on the nature of politically motivated printers, presses and publishers, with particular attention given to Andrew Bent (Tasmania's first printer)'. Monograph No. 5 (Evolution), traces the evolution of books from papyrus rolls to the early Renaissance. No. 6 (Revolution) examines the progressive decline of book production. No. 7 (Regulation) 'discussed the drive for rationalisation of techniques at the expense of the creative potential of authorship.' No. 8 (Re-Evaluation) 'weighed the benefits to text and reader of an individual and creative approach to book design, typography and illustrations against the losses inflicted by mass production principles' [ref. Jarvis, The Wayzgoose Affair, pages 91, 150 & 152]. The coloured initials form the words type [Volume I] and font [Volume II].
