About this Item
This Polish-Jewish artist, illustrator and cartoonist fled Hitler's persecution but enjoyed skewering him in his 1941 book "The New Order"; a superb miniaturist and manuscript illuminator, his prints and book illustrations often bear a resemblance to stained glass windows and medieval illuminated manuscript leaves. Partly-Printed ADS, 1p, 6¼" X 2 3/4", New Canaan, CT, 20 November 1948. Near fine. Bank check drawn on The First National Bank & Trust Co., made out in Szyk's handsome printing to "Cash" in the amount of $27.00 and handsomely signed at lower right. On the verso he signs a second time. Usual bank cancellation perforations, not touching signature. A lovely twice-signed example dated just six months after Szyk attained American citizenship.
