Two matching volumes, one of them (Volume II) inscribed and signed by author Kate Douglas Wiggin. VOLUME I: Penelope's English Experiences. Date on title page MDCCCC (1900). Olive green cloth decorated and lettered in gold on cover and spine, blind-stamped decorative border on rear board. Binding is tight & square, no cracking. Light wear to spine corners. Pages and edges are clean, with gilt page edges. Clean endpapers; no names, writing or marks. Frontis illustration with clean tissue guard. Fifty-three illustrations by Charles E. Brock. 176 pages. VOLUME II - Penelope's Progress - Being Such extracts from the Commonplace Book of Penelope Hamilton as relate to her Experiences in Scotland. Olive green cloth boards with gold decoration and lettering on cover and spine. Spots of wear to spine corners. Binding is tight & square, no cracking. Pages and edges are clean, with gilt page edges. Inscribed and signed by the author on front free endpaper: "Give me Queen's weather, dear Sun, and shine a benison upon my wedding-morn! - Last page - Kate Douglas Wiggin."
