Not Published. 12mo. Professionally bound in period style quarter cloth and marbled paper over boards, leather spine label. Frontispiece portrait engraved by D.J. Pound, publisher's ads on the last page. Inscribed by Gilbart on the title page: "To W.D. Asperne, Esq., with the Author's best regards." Signed by Asperne on the tissue guard of the frontispiece plate. The edges of the frontispiece plate and tissue guard have a few small chips and light professional repair with Japan paper, else near fine. An eminent Victorian, Gilbart was General Manager of the London and Westminster Bank (one of the first joint-stock banks in London), fellow of the Royal Society, and connected with the Union Club (a debating society founded by J.S. Mill). He wrote the influential *Practical Treatise on Banking* (1827), and several other important works on the history, principles, and practice of banking. A very scarce proof copy of: *The Philosophy of History* his only unpublished work, in a handsome period style binding.…

Orders usually ship within 2 business days. Our $10 rate is for UPS or Priority Mail. Our $5.50 rate is media mail which can take a week or two, or a month or two (rarely, but has happened).
