Add to basketOne-of-a-kind photo album of the history of The Hale Observatory in Pasadena, California and Las Campanas Observatory in the Atacama region in Chile. This is a special album given to Caryl P. Haskins, who was the then president of the Carnegie Institution for Science (CIS) , which helped establish and operates the Las Campanas site. Presented to Haskins on 5/27, 1971, and signed by 20 staff members. Consiists of 60 photo reproductions, 7" x 9", mounted on thick grey card stock, with captions. Photos show the building of each site, the buldings and the telescopes housed within, and the stars and galaxies they observed. About 20 photos are in color. Laid-in is a typed letter signe by Horace W. Babcock, whoe directed the Mt. Wilson and Palomar Observatories from 1964 until 1978, and helped found the Las Campanas site. ; 12" x 14".
