About this Item

Description:

2 vols.: xix, 339; 338 p. 18 cm. Identical title page engravings. Green leather with blank and gold impressing. Burgundy and tan spine labels. All edges gilt. Binding signed by Carss & Co., Glasgow. Moderate wear to edges. Faint scratches to brown leather spine labels. Prolific English poet and novelist Letitia Elizabeth Landon (1802-38), often known as L.E.L., would influence Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Robert Browning and Christina Rossetti, among others. Yet, due to the perceived immorality of her lifestyle, her works were often suppressed or misrepresented after her death. Carss was a favourite bookbinder of Glasgow bibliophiles.
