First American Trade Edition. Limited Edition of 600 copies signed by author. Novel which, typical of the author s style and theme, addresses with some satire the class issues of middle and upper class life in small town New England in the 20th Century. Includes a satirical portrayal of W. Lloyd Warner, a Harvard anthropologist who studied the manners of Marquand's Newburyport. Basis for a 1968 episode of the black and white Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) TV series "Playhouse 90" directed by Franklin J. Schaffner and starring Walter Abel and Edward Andrews. Near Fine with a vintage bookplate to inside front cover and some spotting to inside covers, in a Very Good dustjacket with light wear to spine ends and cover corners, light soiling and spine darkened.
