Thick octavo, orange cloth lettered in gilt; worn pictorial dust jacket. First edition, first printing. A presentation copy, inscribed: "To the Honorable Philip C. Jessup, with regards, Bernhard G. Bechhoefer, August 22, 1961," on the front endpaper; Jessup is indexed several times in the volume. ---- The recipient, Philip Jessup, a judge on the International Court of Justice, served as a United Nations ambassador at large. In "Postwar Negotiations," Bechhoefer credited Jessup with playing a major role in ending the Soviet blockade of West Berlin. A compelling presentation copy, linking the veteran diplomat Jessup with Bechhoefer, a senior advisor for various United Nations commissions.
