Illustrated By Plates, Wood-cuts, and Cases. By Joseph Amesbury Surgeon. Vol I, (II) London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green, & Longman, Paternoster Row, And may be had by all booksellers. (1837). The Volume is in Very Good Condition bound in red grained Morocco, round spine, with gilt ruled compartments, and gilt lettering, with leaf edges red speckled. Externally the boards and spine are lightly scuffed in general, with the spines faded a bit and with some fraying to the heads and tails, and with the board corners bumped a bit. Internally the leaves are generally clean and amply margined, with some mild toning at the initial and final leaves, and with some mild fox marks occasionally otherwise. Complete. 4th Edition. Bound by C. Cooper &co., Birmingham, with some of the plates and descriptive text out of order at the end of volume I. The volume is paginated as follows: Vol. I.; [iii]-viii, [i]-iii-[iv], [1]-384, [16]. ; Vol. II.; [2], [i]-iv, [385]-830, [2]. The volumes collate as follows: Vol. I;[A]6, B-2B8, 8 leaves of plates interleaved with [x]1, 2H7. Vol. II; [x]3, 3C-3G8. The volume measures about 22 cm. By 14.5 cm. By 2.5 cm. Each leaf measures about 215 mm. By 135 mm. Presentation copy from the Author, signed "J. Freer Proud Esq're From the Author", on the title page. Joseph Amesbury was a nineteenth century surgeon, specialising in spinal injuries and issues. With an array of patented assistive supports and devices Ca. 1837, Amesbury subsequently founded the Spinal and General Orthopaedic Association to treat spinal disease with his machines and with a medical staff paid for by the sufferers themselves.
