They have renamed School of the Ozarks College. Today, they call it College of the Ozarks. And you may have heard it called Hard Work U. It doesn't matter what you call it, the little college on the bluff overlooking Taneycomo Lake near Hollister, Missouri was a haven for me.
It was a chance at a better life than I had ever hoped for as a financially- challenged country boy growing up on the Big Piney River. I went there right out of highschool when I was 17 years old and loved it. What kid who loved to fish wouldn't love a place perched right on top of some of the Ozarks' best trout fishing? And a few miles away, there was Table Rock Lake, with bass the size of boat paddle blades.
This book was written to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the day I first set foot on the School of the Ozarks campus in 1965, and to honor some of the people who worked and taught there, who gave me a foundation that has lasted over all these years. I hope you find some humor in this. It isn't fiction, it's all true!
