This is a rendition of the complaint against Ernest Merlet (24 yrs old), arrested at 8:30 for "une "folie mercourt" and indencies with a boy named Eugene Lesaille ("sise (sic) ans 1/2"). Merlet allegedly got him drunk on "cassis sans eau" and sirop de groseille" and vermouth near the Bastille. He allegedly kissed him and pulled his pants down, etc. The details are quite specific in the indictment and the boy's statement is presented. The document bears the stamp of the "Cour Imperial de Paris" and is signed. There are, in addition, 22 pages of documents relating to the case, including: 1) A four page holograph document entitled "Cour imperiale de Paris chamber des mises en accusation" which presents more details; 2) A printed document signed by a judge relating to Merlet; 3) A four page holograph court document entitled "Acte d'accusation contre Merlet" with more details (Lesaille was playing outseide, Merlet got him drunk and touched his sexual parts, etc.) This identifies the crime as "attentat a la pudeur, sans violence" a violation of Art. 331 of the code; 4) An interesting collection of holograph notes relating to the case, referring to some literature in the field of homosexuality. One note refers to "Faustin Helie, tome IV, p. 260" which says "peut-etre Art. 331 aurait-il du distingue contre les simples actes de pudeur et d'obscenite et la defloration de l'enfant." Several other pages refer to legal antecedents, whether the activity was habitual, etc. and cites Tardieu and references to pederasty; 5) A printed list of the jurors in the case and other legal papers. Manuscript is in good to very good condition and is preserved in archival folders. (87117).
