SIGNED. 10-page article stapled in the top left corner. Inscribed by the Canadian experimental poet, novelist, and critic, Earle Birney, to fellow poet Bill Stafford at the head of the article. Birney taught at the University of British Columbia, where he founded and oversaw the first Canadian creative writing program. William Stafford is known for his pacifism and his gentle tone. James Dickey in his book "Babel to Byzantium," refers to Stafford as "a real poet, a born poet," whose "natural mode of speech is a gentle, mystical, half-mocking and highly personal daydreaming about the western United States." Stafford won the 1963 National Book Award for "Traveling through the Dark." William Stafford's poem "At Earle Birney's School" was published in the July 1959 issue of "Poetry.".
