Synopsis
Twelve stories set on the beautiful Isle of Man, penned with affection by a writer who loves the ‘land of her birth’ with a passion. These varied tales range from early Christian times, through the 19th and 20th centuries, post WWII and the Beatles era, as well as contemporary and near-future pieces. The narratives cover widely divergent relationships and events. Middle aged love, youthful infatuation, a touch of the paranormal, brusque, no nonsense regret and deeply committed determination are just some of the themes of these shrewd, dramatic and thought provoking tales, each set in different area of this tiny Irish Sea isle, and each crafted by a consummate professional.
About the Author
Judith Davis, a Member of the Society of Authors, playwright and published writer of commercial short fiction for more than twenty years, is proud of her ancient Manx lineage and her affection for the land of her birth drives much of her writing.
Born near and brought up in Douglas, the island capital, when it was a bustling holiday resort, Judith has viewed considerable change on the Isle of Man; it is a much busier and more populous place today, though thankfully with a greater appreciation of its heritage.
During her family years, Judith has two daughters and a son, she relocated often and has amassed an intricate knowledge of the back roads and hidden places of the Island.
Judith feel that short stories are a terrific medium for repetitive honing - if not to ultimate perfection - then certainly to a ‘fine ideal.’
Writing is an essential outlet for Judith, who believes that humour, sympathy for the human condition, and keen observational faculties are the basic attributes for a successful writer, especially of short stories, also, time, determination and a philosophical attitude to inevitable rejection!
