Synopsis
Five young friends (two girls, three boys) live on Jackpine Point on the shore of the Big Lake and have funny but thought-provoking adventures. In this first of the Jackpine Point Adventures series, narrator David Malloy struggles with the question "How do you feed your enemy when he threatens to eat you for lunch?" Ripper Wilter, new tough kid in town, accuses the five friends of stealing his prized Little League batting trophy. That would be laughable--except the trophy keeps showing up in the possession of one or the other of the Pointers. Suspicion grows and their friendship falls apart as Ripper's threats grow. Will the statue ever get back to Ripper and stay there? Why does it keep re-appearing in the most unlikely places: a locker, a backpack, a dog's slobbery mouth? The Pointers have always done everything together, but this time David has to make a decision alone--and finds he's not as alone as he thought.
