This collection of David Paynter’s poetry explores the human condition and our relationship with nature. He escorts us along parts of his own voyage of self-discovery - leaving behind a successful marketing business he spent several, often frustrating, years searching for meaningful creative expression, eventually finding this in sculpture and poetry.
For the last 20 years, his talents have combined to express his deep conviction that humans urgently need to reconnect with our planet in much deeper ways. What he feels is at stake is our very survival - at the personal level, we can feel empathy for other humans and other species, yet as a race we continue along a self-destructive path. ‘As individuals we can be wise… as a species we are fools.’
Yet he also expresses the possibility of joy and a real sense of freedom through reconnection. If we slow down and tune in to nature, we can ‘Dance with the butterfly’.
‘I really like this collection. It’s delightfully personal, but with universal resonance, with words, phrases, insights and reflections that touch us all – no doubt in many different ways.’ - Jonathon Porritt
