Revised and enlarged edition hard back binding in publisher's original maroon cloth covers, gilt title lettering to the spine and front cover, archive monochrome illustrated end papers. Quarto 10'' x 8''. The first Investiture ceremony of the Victoria Cross was held in Hyde Park, London on 26th June 1857. Some 62 recipients of the world's most coveted award for bravery were decorated by Queen Victoria herself with the medal that bore her name. The Register of the Victoria Cross is an illustrated directory, including winners details of their place of birth, town and county connections, memorials and accounts of the deeds for which the V.C. was awarded. Contains 352 pp with monochrome photographs throughout. SIGNED by Leading Seaman, Royal Navy 'Phillip R. S. (Robert Stephen) May G. C. | 1988' 25 November 1947 to the contents leaf. Light dust marking to the closed page edges. Very Good condition book in Good condition dust wrapper with rubbing to the spine ends and corners.
