First published with Doubleday, Doran & Co. without illustrations in 1941. Inscribed by Patric across the whole recto page of the front endpaper and dated in 1970, with an additional authorial note on the following page. Dark red wine cloth with bright print in white and a blind-stamped illustration, map endpapers, striking illustrations in the text. Light foxing on the edges. The dust jacket has many issues: chipped and rubbed along the edges, spine and fore edges; the lower front edge and spine is festively and irregularly eroded away. Contains racist language. Based on a investigation of a repair services in a variety of industries conducted by The Reader's Digest.

“Else Fine” is a play on words, perhaps referring to something of value yet slightly worse for wear. It perfectly describes the booksellers at Else Fine, who have been dealing in used and rare books for over 25 years. We specialize in science fiction, interesting ephemera, books on books, radical literature and history, Pacific Northwest Americana, literature, and whatever else catches our eye.
