Synopsis
In Roma Osservata/Rome Observed Errol Barron has once again compiled a collection of drawings based on the features of a beloved city. As in its predecessor, New Orleans Observed, he has in this small volume reproduced pages from his sketchbooks, his constant companions as he explores how the effects of light, scale, and structure can express the spirit of a place. During two eight week sessions as professor for the Tulane School of Architecture Rome Program, he found himself following in the footsteps of all those who have gone to Rome and been transformed; the drawings compiled as he moved about the city on his folding bike and the explanatory notes written later in a time of reflection pay tribute to that heritage with perception and wit. The book is both a souvenir for those who love Rome and an excursion for those who love drawing. In both English and Italian.
