His tanka themes bring to mind classical tanka from 1000 years ago, his cinquain verse is notable for its straightforward diction and accessibility, and his sijo is written with an easy grace and rhythm. To read his free verse poetry is to hear an authentic lyric voice celebrating life in its various manifestations; his touching honesty and humanity thoroughly inhabit his poetry.
Befitting the spread of haiku throughout the world, Gendrano devotes a chapter on haiku, Philippine style, where he writes bilingually in English and Tagalog, a Philippine language. Enjoy Gendrano's commented poems encompassing almost a decade of literary work; their variety assures that there is something for everybody.
