- A cream-colored card, 1-1/2 inches high by 3 inches wide, is signed in black ink "William F. Whiting". The card is slightly soiled with a small black stain & 2 tiny black marks to its edges. Good. Born in Holyoke, Mass., William F. Whiting [1864-1936] served as treasurer and later president of his father's Whiting Paper Company. He became a lifelong friend of Calvin Coolidge when Coolidge was mayor of Northampton, Mass. Whiting became one of the first two "Coolidge Men" to advocate for their friend as a serious presidential candidate. Later he held the position of U.S. Secretary of Commerce from August 28, 1928 to March 4, 1929 in the last months of the Coolidge administration. Seller Inventory # 37109
