FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, PRESENTATION COPY. Inscribed by Carter on the front free endpaper to the book’s dedicatee, "To Christopher Lee with respectful devotion, from Margaret L. Carter - January 1976". One of 200 copies printed. The pre-eminent vampire, Count Dracula, is called to mind in the author's dedication to incontrovertibly his finest screen interpreter. Lee portrayed the Prince of Darkness 10 times between 1958 and 1973. Carter, chiefly a horror and fantasy novelist, incorporated much of the material from this book in her later pioneering study: 'The Vampire in Literature - A Critical Bibliography' (UMI Research Press, 1989). Provenance: Estate of Christopher Lee. Octavo. Text printed from typescript. Bound in red leatherette, titles to upper board and spine in gilt. Patches of bubbling to boards, corners slightly pushed, gentle forward lean. Near fine overall.
