This U.S. admiral was commander of the U.S.S. Minnesota when she struck a German mine in September 1918, but he got his ship to port without loss of life and was decorated for it; commander-in-chief of the U.S. Fleet, 1930-31. Handsome "J.V. Chase / Admiral, U.S. Navy" in blue fountain pen, 5 3/4" X 3 3/4", n.p., n.y. [1930-31]. Very good. Faint age toning. On slip with printed "Flagship of the Commander in Chief / United States Fleet" and blue four-star flag insignia at top. Seller Inventory # 31434
