The New York Central Railroad's president (1885-98) and chairman (1899-1928) is usually remembered as New York's powerful Republican senator (1899-1911). Handsome "April 13 1896 / Yours Truly / Chauncey M Depew" in brown ink in his usual hurried hand, heavy stock 3½" X 2½" card, n.p. Near fine. A terrific example, bold and nice. Comes with a nifty, pristine 5" X 8" sepia-tone printed photograph (bookplate, undated but ca. 1900) showing Depew half-length seated in a library, clutching an open book. Seller Inventory # 26958

Four small scotch tape stains at edges, slightly touching upon four letters. Several small tape stains at margins, slightly touching upon several letters. Accompanied by a modern high-quality black and white 10" X 8" glossy photograph, a scene from the 1953 comedy "The Lady Wants Mink" depicting Arden in mink coat talking to William Demarest. Fine. Comes with a nice glossy black-and-white 10" X 8" still scene from "The Promoter," the American title for this 1952 British comedy, depicting co-star Alec Guinness at left and Johns at right. Asked to compose a humorous verse by an admirer, Colonna manages a two-line ditty in his large, bold script: "To Donald Burnell / I can't even spell / Jerry Colonna" in blue ballpoint, roughly rectangular 4 3/4" X 4" slip, n.p., n.y. [ca. 1960]. Good plus. Several small scotch tape stains at edges, slightly touching upon two letters only. Despite flaw, a fun and fairly attractive item. Comes with a delightful 10" X 8" glossy black-and-white, a still scene from the 1944 musical romance film "Atlantic City" showing Colonna and co-star Constance Moore on the Atlantic City beach in 1915, he in naval seaman's uniform ogling her in swimsuit. Accompanied by a choice vintage 10" X 8" sepia-tone glossy photograph, a scene from the 1944 Western "Swing in the Saddle" depicting him front and center with singer Jane Frazee, the "Hoosier Hotshots" band behind them.
