This tough-to-categorize figure was an influential American man of letters who opined through his "The Easy Chair" column in "Harper's Magazine" (which he edited) and popular lecture tours. Handsome "Ashfield, Mass. / October 6 1877. / With all good wishes / from / George William Curtis," 4½" X 3 3/4" slip. Very good. Slight show-through along left edge from mounting trace on verso. Accompanied by a fine 8½" X 11" glazed steel-engraved portrait by T. Cole, from the 1882 "Century Gallery of One Hundred Portraits.". Seller Inventory # 28478
