This powerful California newspaper editor took over the "Fresno Republican" (founded by his uncle) in 1898, and by 1920 had made it a major political force; from 1920-32 he edited the influential "San Francisco Chronicle." Bold and handsome "Chester H. Rowell / San Francisco / August 25, 1930" in blue fountain pen on a beige 6" X 3 3/4" autograph album leaf. Near fine. From the collection of Preston Sawyer (1899-1968), California journalist and historical writer.
