This American intellectual, scholar and diplomat served as president of Dartmouth College for 25 years (1945-70), and is credited with revitalizing that Ivy League institution. Signed First Day Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled at Hanover, New Hampshire on 22 September 1969 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. Single 6-cent "Daniel Webster / The / Dartmouth / College Case / 1819" stamp at upper right. At lower left, in his stylized calligraphic script, Dickey signs large and bold in black fountain pen. Most unusual and attractive.
