About this Item
The famed and long-lived American photojournalist is best known for his haunting black-and-white images of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War as well as portraits of Pablo Picasso. Signed FDC, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Washington, DC on 26 July 1985 and with "First Day of Issue" so stamped. Near fine. At upper right of this blank envelope is the 1985 22-cent "Veterans Korea" stamp whose image is Duncan's famed 1950 photograph showing 65th Infantry Regiment soldiers marching through a mountain pass near Chosin Reservoir toward the sea. Just below this, Duncan signs thick and bold with a brownish marker -- his usual highly stylized signature. No engraved cachet at left; never addressed. With original transmittal envelope, at upper left of which Duncan prints his name and Castellaras, France return address large and bold. Other than signed and inscribed copies of Duncan's many photograph collection coffee table books, he is rather uncommon in this signed FDC form. Seller Inventory # 50362
