The 1961 Antarctic Treaty was signed by Norway by this career diplomat, who was named Norway's ambassador to the United States in 1961. Signed First Day Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Washington, DC on 23 June 1971 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. Single 8-cent "Antarctic Treaty 1961-1971" stamp at upper right. Near the center, beneath the postal cancellation, Koht signs boldly in blue ballpoint. Small portion of original transmittal envelope also present.
