Add to basketThis English physicist served as first director of the Jodrell Bank Observatory from 1945 to 1980; he developed the world's first radio telescope -- the Lovell Telescope -- and his development of radio astronomy earned him knighthood in 1961. Signed FDC, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Washington, DC on 23 April 1973 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. 8-cent "Copernicus 1473-1973" stamp at upper right. In blank lower left area, Lovell signs boldly in blue fineline. No ornamental cachet, no recipient's name/address. Fine. Accompanied by original transmittal envelope (15 May 1973) and small printed University of Manchester "With Compliments from Professor Sir Bernard Lovell" slip.
