Reviews: After retirement, many people find themselves needing a new challenge. Some may want to act on deferred dreams, while others may just want to review possibilities. May's book responds to the needs of both. She surveys various business opportunities--e.g., home-based businesses such as tax preparation, catering, cleaning businesses--and examines the pros and cons of franchises. She covers many nitty-gritty details such as advertising, permits, insurance, and location. Not forgotten are such things as what business structure to use (partnership? chapter-S corporation?) and merchandising itself. Necessarily, insight (e.g., join a trade association) is mixed with truism (e.g., keep costs low). Finally, May provides coaching on retiring the second time--that is, selling the business. Despite a rather skimpy "reference" section, the range, detail, and upbeat encouragement for the tentative rate this a (cheap) purchase.
