John Livingstone Clark was born on Saltspring Island, British Columbia, and has lived in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, since 1984. He attended the University of British Columbia and obtained a B.A. in English and Anthropology and a M.F.A. in Creative Writing, as well as doing graduate work in English at Simon Fraser University and at the University of Sydney on a Commonwealth Scholarship. He is currently teaching English and Creative Writing at the University of Saskatchewan, and serving a one-year term as the Writer-in-Residence at the Saskatoon Public Library.

Clark has published several books of poetry and a novella, as well as a resource book for teachers. His poetry and prose has appeared in numerous journals, including Grain, Prairie Fire, Dandelion, The Fiddlehead, and Canadian Fiction Magazine. His work has also been included in many anthologies, most recently in In The Clear (Thistledown Press, 1998).
