Surviving Mexico: The Insiders Guide To Safe Travel

This is not the typical travel guide to Mexico. Rather, it offers advice on topics every traveler should be concerned about. What do you do if you're cheated while buying a souvenir? What should you do if a Mexican policeman pulls you over? What happens if you are involved in an accident? This book gives specific and practical information and step-by-step instructions on how to solve many such problems.

Surviving Mexico includes sample travel documents, embassy and consulate information, before-you-go tips, and safety information. This is an indispensable handbook for the over 18 million Americans who visit Mexico every year.

Rich and influential jet-setter or career criminal? From 1978 to 1985, even his family did not know since John Stanley lived the life of the rich and famous. Living in Mexico as a fugitive facing life in prison for bank fraud, Stanley posed as a purchasing agent for the Mexican government, shipping stolen vehicles, boats, airplanes, and heavy equipment across the border. He hobnobbed with the wealthy and elite of the country, living a lifestyle some could only dream of. More importantly, however, Stanley learned the ins and outs of surviving in Mexico and has revealed the practical knowledge he gained from his experiences in this book.

After serving a federal prison term, Stanley studied sociology and criminology at the University of Texas at Austin and is considered by many in law enforcement, academia and the news media to be an expert on criminal behavior and crime prevention. Additionally, Stanley has spent the last three years travelling throughout Mexico updating his knowledge of Mexican culture and putting his experience to work. The result is an atypical practical guide and troubleshooting manual for anyone planning to visit Mexico.
