In the Time of Worms: An Ancient Tale of Marblehead

Set against a picturesque, seaside Massachusetts town, this historical novel is a journey from all that is safe, modern, and familiar into a world that is dark, threatening, and utterly enthralling. When a mysterious figure appears from a hidden door in his home, psychologist Max Blessing and two friends pursue the stranger not just into a network of old smugglers’ tunnels but also back in time—to 1704, where they are taken captive by a desperate band of brigands. Their buccaneer captors are themselves under siege, struggling to survive on a sea patrolled by a British admiral with an obsession, watched by a turncoat rogue pirate, and haunted by the promise of a treasure that might be buried in time itself. The friends soon find that their trip is also a personal voyage, as each struggles to discover who he really is and to which world and time he really belongs.
