Dr. Roberta Bondar, a neurologist and researcher, was the first Canadian woman to travel in space. Currently, Dr. Bondar is a Distinguished Professor, Centre for Advanced Technology, Ryerson Polytechnic University; Visiting Research Scholar, Department of Neurology, University of New Mexico; and Visiting Research Scholar, Universities Space Research Association, Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas. She has a Bachelor of Science in zoology and agriculture from the University of Guelfph, a Master of Science degree in experimental pathology from the University of Western Ontario, a doctorate in neurobiology from the University of Toronto, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from McMaster University. Dr. Bondar has certification in scuba diving and parachuting, and holds a private pilot's license.
