Beyond the initial training in how to do soul retrievals, the transformational information you find in this book was a direct gift to Maryphyllis by her primary spirit guides. The intention of it initially was for her own healing and spiritual growth. This was because there were no other humans who could help her attain the deep level of integration and transformation that her spirit guides said was needed. In fact, several people said that a soul retrieval doesn't need inner follow-up work, and that all a person needs to do is to just continue working on their issues. In the beginning Maryphyllis tried doing that but found herself becoming more deeply mired in the negativity of her soul parts. The remainder is devoted to what the soul part needs when it returns to you, how to effectively and satisfyingly work with it, what to expect in the process and what pitfalls to avoid. Numerous stories from clients illustrate methods and out-comes. Methods are designed for use within the shamanic journey but can also be used in other trance forms.

Maryphyllis Educational Background Maryphyllis received her B.A. in music education from Gettysburg College, Pennsylvania, and her M.Ed. in music education from The Pennsylvania State University, PA. For 31 years she taught public high school award-winning choral music in New York State, South Carolina and New Mexico. During this time she began studying metaphysical and holistic topics, graduated from Connie Newton s Integrated Awareness program, became a Reiki practitioner, and enrolled in Sancta Sophia Seminary in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. After three years of study at this interfaith, metaphysical seminary, she received her metaphysical ministry ordination in 1987. In 1993 she left her teaching career, to attend The Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado, for a Master s degree study of Transpersonal Psychology. It was there that she experienced a profound mystical calling to shamanism. Within a few months time she took Michael Harner s Basic Shamanism workshop, Sandra Ingerman s Soul Retrieval seminar and various other pertinent studies from the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. She also received certification in spiritual hypnotherapy through the Alchemical Hypnotherapy Institute of Colorado. Maryphyllis's Shamanic Practice In 1995 she moved to North Carolina and set up a private practice in shamanic counseling and healing, along with hypnotherapy work. Since then, she has studied additional healing modalities, each one for the purpose of being better able to help her clients healing. Her certifications include Pastoral Counseling from Sancta Sophia Seminary, Thought Field Therapy, and Past-Life Regression from Dolores Cannon (hypnotherapist in Arkansas). She also became a Reconnection Level III practitioner with Dr. Eric Pearl of California. Her in-depth study of various forms of depossession have led her to the hypnotherapy style of Irene Hickman (hypnotherapist in Illinois), the shamanic style of Betsy Bergstrom (shamanic practitioner in Washington state), and an intuitive style of Diana Henderson and Julia Hanline (healing practitioners in North Carolina). Maryphyllis's primary calling within shamanic work is to help people get in touch with their inner guidance, mend their soul through soul retrieval and soul transformation, and heal their past so that they can tap into their individual missions when they are ready to do so. Clearing the past may include past-life therapy, chakra healing, ancestral lines clearing, depossession and more. Her study with human teachers has formed but a small part of her spiritual training. Since embarking on the shamanic path in 1994, the vast majority of her instruction has been from her own spirit helpers, aka power animals and spirit teachers.
