About this Item
Signed 'To Ginny McConnell, the best Mrs Fitzgerald there ever was or ever shall be. Alec Wilder' on inner margin of first page. McConnell's Pittsford NY address in blue ink on card taped to inside of front board. Boards a bit rubbed, minor notes on a few pages, ostensibly stage notes by McConnell herself. 1973 Spiral-Bound Softcover. 98 pp. Plastic comb binding, plain black cardstock boards. The Truth About Windmills was an opera Alec Wilder arranged in 1973, based on a libretto by Arnold Sundgaard which had previously been rejected by Schirmer. Interestingly, Wilder also insisted that the premiere of the opera be presented in Avon, New York - a suitably rural location, and the setting of his earlier Children's Plea for Peace. The original cast included William Briggs, John Maloy, Virginia McConnell, and Irene Stumberger, and was designed and directed by members of the Eastman Opera Department. Wilder was originally born in Rochester, New York, which is where this score was acquired. Seller Inventory # 2339662
