PreSchool-Grade 1 A little girlupstairsand a little mousedownstairsare getting ready for bed. Both want a bedtime snack, and although afraid to go downstairs/up stairs to the kitchen by themselves, they manage to reach the roomat the same moment (of course). For an instant they stare at one another and then run from the room. Both are comforted with the moth erly perception that one was probably more scared than the other. They are tucked into bed and, falling asleep at about the same moment to dream of each other. Illustrations are done in softly- hued watercolors, with facial expressions that are evocative of the story's moment; and whimsical detailing is uncluttered. Art and text are in total complement, neither one overshadowing the other.
