Faint fold lines, date stamp to head of letter from 1941. $950. * Dr. Solomon Goldman (1893-1953) was an influential American rabbi and served as the president of the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) from 1938 to 1940. These letters capture Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter-himself a prominent Zionist leader and advisor to FDR-warmly praising Goldman's leadership and rhetorical power during a critical inflection point for global Jewry at the start of WWII. April 22, 1940: Frankfurter writes to express his deep appreciation for Goldman's powerful address at the 25th Annual Convention of Hadassah. In that historic speech, Goldman issued a rallying cry against complacency, asking: "Will American Jewry. rise to its full stature, or will this giant among the Jewries of the world fetter its own hands and feet? A timid Jewry in America is no asset to world Jewry. We are becoming habituated to defeat, whispering, begging. It is not ours to beg for tolerance. We must demand justice."
